New Format in Action
Our new format event followed an action-packed programme which saw debate and interaction on a broad-reaching global agenda and featured live participation from across the world. Sessions put together key participants from government, regulators together with leading industry names, digital visionaries and more for interactive debate and information exchange. The debate agenda spanned areas such as the challenges of rolling out broadband, how to build a truly global online community, next-generation wireless technologies and how spectrum can be utilized to cope with increased bandwidth demands, the different roles of social media, building a safe cyberspace, conducting business in the cloud and much more.
Who Took Part
We were delighted to welcome major event partners including Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, China Mobile, China Potevio, Cisco, Datang, Du, Ericsson, Etisalat, Fiberhome, Fujitsu, Huawei, Intel, NTT Group, NTT DOCOMO, Qtel, RIM, Samsung, Swisscom, Telkom SA, Türk Telekom, TDIA, Verizon and ZTE.
National Pavilions representing 29 nations from across the world also took part. These spanned a huge diversity of companies from Rostelecom and RSCC in the Russian Pavilion, ICASA and Sentech in the South African Pavilion or Maxis, Celcom and Digi in the Malaysia Pavilion to key not for profit organizations such as MADA, (Qatar Assistive Technology Center). Welcoming the world to their respective ICT sectors, and sharing their visions for their ICT future, Ghana and Nigeria celebrated their National days during the event, while the South African Pavilion was launched in an opening by the country’s Minister for Communications from South Africa, H.E. Mr Radhakrishna Padayachie. Azerbaijan also showcased its ICT sector to the world in a ceremony hosted by Prof. Dr. Ali M Abbasov, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies for Azerbaijan.
A number of startups from the dynamic Lake Geneva region- an ICT hub- used the event to showcase their products and services including Sysmosoft, SECU4 or CTI.
We were pleased to welcome top-level representatives of UN Agencies including WHO, WIPO, UNFPA, who participated in many key aspects of the event.

Over 6,500 top-level participants including Heads of State and Government, Ministers, city mayors, industry CEOs and technology gurus, along with hundreds of thousands of participants from around the world interacting in real-time via webcasts and twitter streams.
332 global leaders participating in the Broadband Leadership Summit.
34 of the world’s major ICT names participating in the event as key partners.
251 influential speakers from 64 countries took part in the multi-streamed conference agenda.
237 companies from 41 countries on the show floor.
324 accredited media from around the world, including major global broadcasters, news agencies, national newspapers and ICT press.
10,000 students from schools across the globe, who shared their work with 150,000 of their classmates across five continents.
45 Finalists from 22 countries for the Young Innovator and Digital Innovator competitions, who came to Geneva for training in how to pitch their innovative projects to potential investors. The winners (3 in each category) were voted for by delegates in Geneva and around the world via online polls.
