REUGE – a next step to the future

The ceremony of the foundation for the new building of Reuge has been held on September 5, 2014, on time for the 150th anniversary in 2015, of this mythical manufacturer of music boxes, mechanical singing birds and automaton pocket watches.

With the presence of the authorities of Canton of Vaud as well as the municipality of Ste-Croix, the birthplace of this traditional crafts, the Chairman of the Board of directors of Reuge, Mr. Pierre Kladny, shortly described the history and future of the Company.

A proud representative of the local craftsmanship, Reuge had been founded in 1865 and has been in its present manufacturing site at the Rue des Rasses in Ste-Croix for nearly 100 years. As time moved along and production evolved, the needs for space and equipment changed and the Company decided to look for a new site providing for the highest standards of craftsmanship and ergonomics.

The 2700 m2 facility should be ready by late 2015 and allow Reuge to continue refining its philosophy honed for a century and a half: listen to the clients, fulfill their ever so unusual requests, be it in the world of governments, companies or individuals, whether they are visiting the selected retailers throughout the world or admiring our creations on the Web.

The new manufacture will be built under the direction of Mr. Jean-Christophe Liermier, head architect, who ensures that – whenever possible – local companies will have been chosen. The entire building will, fittingly, be covered with wood planks picturing a great wooden “music box” at the entrance of Sainte Croix, the epicenter of music boxes worldwide.
